AJC New England Urges Dialogue on Difficult Issues

November 1, 2016 – Boston – AJC New England is offering the following comment after learning about controversy concerning a pending program at Congregation Ahavath Torah in Stoughton.

AJC is committed to advancing interreligious cooperation and understanding among our diverse faith communities.  At times, forging these strong relationships may require difficult conversations, such as took place between Catholics and Jews in the decades after World War II.   Such discussions, however, are a vital component of efforts to build strong, cohesive communities where all citizens are committed to co-existence.

In this regard, we note that there are voices within the Jewish, Muslim and Christian communities that introduce hyperbolic rhetoric and allegations against the other.  While we recognize their right to say what they choose, we believe that the arduous work of dialogue provides a firmer road to building healthy community and co-existence.

We urge all members of our community to avoid action that wantonly feeds division.

AJC New England is the local gateway to AJC’s global advocacy network that works to safeguard Israel and Jews around the world, and promote democratic values for all.
